Junior, Bud, and Dada are young black men living in Bertie County, North Carolina. The closure of the local alternative school forces their families to struggle for adequate education in the already underserved community. Over the course of six years, they experience the joys of first love, parenthood, and familial reunions. Raising Bertie is an intimate look at the consequences of systemic racism, economic uncertainty, and the violence that colors the lives of young men that want nothing more than to grow up. -GHR
