BROWN GIRLS (plays w/web series HOT&BOTHERED, S1Ep1&2)

Expected Guests HOT & BOTHERED Director, Writer, Co-Star Leah Byrd and Co-Star Ian Patrick Ashwell

2017 / USA / Web Series, S1

Leila and Patricia are best friends navigating life as millennials in Chicago; Leila, a South Asian-American writer just now owning her queerness, Patricia a sex-positive Black-American musician/bartender struggling to commit to anything. Leaning on one another as they try to overcome the messiness of their twenties, the two struggle through awkward right swipes, cultural expectations, post-party curbside crying and more. A funny, intimate portrait of becoming an adult in the urban heartland, the series was co-created by Fatimah Asghar and Sam Bailey, both Chicago natives looking to see their own peers represented on screen. Originally appearing on OpenTV (a web platform dedicated to queer and intersectional programming) BROWN GIRLS has gone on to be in development for HBO and nominated for a 2017 Emmy for Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series.
