2017/ Swaziland, Qatar, USA / Documentary
A young Swazi girl embarks on an epic adventure to rescue her twin brothers, a story born from the real life imaginations of five children living together in a Swazi orphanage. Pulling from their own pasts- sometimes joyful, sometimes devastating- the children collectively create the journey of LIYANA. Mixing the fictional tale with documentary footage of these budding storytellers, parallel narratives of bravery, hope and love emerge. Produced by British-Zimbabwean actress Thandie Newton (CRASH, WESTWORLD) and brought to life by Nigerian illustrator/artist Shofela Coker, LIYANA is an inspirational experience blooming with creativity from all sides of the camera. Lyrical and moving, the film is a true testament to the power of artistic expression.
