Wang Bingzhang, founder of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Movement, has been imprisoned in China for fourteen years, accused of political activism. His ex-wife and children continue to campaign for his release despite the fact that he was not a model father figure. Using letters written by Bingzhang, a portrait of the life of a prisoner unfolds; his tortures, fears and hopes become drawn in the margins of his lengthy writings sent to his family and read throughout the film in stirring moments of emotional detail. The story of a family bound together by tragedy, INSIDE THESE WALLS looks at the struggle from inside and outside of a prison cell and the the ongoing political oppression that is just out of view for many but so real to many others.
