The Festival

The Citizen Jane Film Festival, an intimate, four-day film festival celebrating and showcasing the work of female filmmakers from around the world, takes place October 22-25, 2015, in downtown Columbia, Mo., and features some of the best in independent filmmaking, filmmaker panels, workshops and parties. Founded at Stephens College, the second oldest women’s college in the country, Citizen Jane is changing opportunities for women in film through an internationally known Film Festival, Film Series and a Filmmaking Camp for young women.  Through education, connection and artistic/unique experiences, Citizen Jane celebrates independent film by independent women.

Citizen Jane Film Festival is well known for being a diverse international film festival and for supporting emerging and established filmmakers. The festival has hosted filmmakers as diverse as Christine Vachon, Kat Candler, Barbara Hammer, Julia Reichert and Yvonne Welbon.

According to The Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film, in 2014 women comprised only 7% of all directors working on the top 250 domestic grossing films. CJFF tackles the underrepresentation of women in the film industry head on by creating a community that engages in lively discussions. We believe that through the support of avid audiences and fellow filmmakers, we can ultimately change these dismal statistics and create a better future for us all.

The day before the festival, we bring together influencers from around the country for the CJ Summit to work on the challenges facing women in film. The third annual CJ Summit will be held at Historic Senior Hall on the Stephens College campus on November 3rd, 2015.

Passes and tickets for the festival are available online or in person at the Box Office the week of the festival.
