Risk, Jerks and Self-Promotion

According to The Center for Study of Women in TV and Film, Women comprised 9% of all directors working on the top 250 films of 2008. Ninety percent (90%) of the films had no female directors and overall, in 2008, women comprised just 16% of all directors, executive producers, producers, writers, cinematographers, and editors working on the top 250 domestic grossing films. Sundance: 4 out of 16. Not bad? Or Not Good?

The nominations for this year's Academy Awards are in and as expected Director Katherine Bigelow has been nominated for The Hurt Locker. Competing for the Oscar against four other men, including her ex-husband James Cameron, Bigelow has what many believe is the best shot ever at becoming the first female director to win the Oscar in its 82 year history.
